"I’ve got two new studio singles, ‘Under the Cover of Darkness’ and ‘Poison Summer,’ from the Modern Electric sessions in late February with John Pedigo producing. Those will be out very soon. . .

. . .But first I’ve decided to release this home recorded version of ‘Nurikabe,’ as a sort of digital 45 / single. It will be streaming across platforms on June 16th but I’m sharing it with you here first, my dear supporters.

‘Nurikabe’ has been a song that has grown with me through the years and I have a special fondness for it. I play it at almost every performance, solo and with my backing band The Slings, typically as the first song of the set. I wanted to release a version that’s easier to find for listeners of my solo work than the single previously released with Sur Duda on the Total Distortion album; and a version which better reflects the way the song sounds now when I play it out live under my own name.

I tracked these songs live at home on guitar and vocals and overdubbed some light accompaniment like singing saw, slide guitar and vocal stacks. Backing up this solo version of ‘Nurikabe’ are demo quality versions of a short summer waltz called ‘Terra Damnata’ and an instrumental, open tuned postlude called ‘Grass As it Grows’. The two extra tracks acting as a sort of digital B side.

I hope you enjoy this impulsive and modest offering. It’s an admittedly more raw, lo-fi sound than what is coming with the summer singles, but these songs are something I’ve been wanting to share in their current form before the season passes. And this is the best I could make them sound all by myself at this particular moment in time."
